MUD!

We have been talk lots about mud and what it feels like. We decided to make our own mud using water and clay. Unfortunately the fire alarm rang in the middle of our mud making! This did make for some interesting stories though.

Working Together

On Tuesday afternoon after our Matinee Production performance we had some time to create and practice working together.  We learn't how to use 'old fashion' spinning tops, made creations out of scrap paper, made a big chalk picture outside, used shapes and hammers and nails to make shape picture and used the incredible foam to make sculptures.

Koru the Kiwi comes to visit.

Last Friday Koru the Kiwi came to visit us with his friend Fiona.  They came to help us learn about being safe around the water. 

Alison Shanks Visits Parkvale School

Thomas's aunt to be, Alison Shanks came to visit us at Parkvale School.  She showed us a video of her racing and all the gear she uses to race.  She talked about what it is like to go to the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games and showed us her medals.  Thomas tried on Alison's racing clothes.  Doesn't he look SPEEDY!

Monarch Butterflies

Louie brought two monarch butterflies to school.  They had hatched out of their chrysalis's at his house.  We looked at them for the day then took them outside to release them.

Kayla Brought a swan plant to school with some caterpillars on it.  We watched them slowly eat away the plant then change into chrysalis's.  We noticed that they slowly changed from green to black and orange.  One day while we were writing our stories one of the butterflies came out of its chrysalis.  

We found out that the butterfly was a boy.  We know it was a boy because it had a black spot on its bottom wing. Here is the video of it coming out.

Book Week Dress Up Day

At the end of Term 1 we had a Book Week dress up day.  We came as all sorts of different characters.  Watch our movies to see who we came as!

Shape Pictures

We have been learning about shapes in Room 3.  We made some shape pictures and wrote stories about our pictures.  Here are a few.

I used two squares, two hexagons, four diamonds, one triangle and one trapezoid to make my crown.               By Thomas

Pride Awards

Each fortnight at our school assembly we award one PRIDE award per class.  PRIDE stands for Personal Best, Respect and Responsibility, Integrity, Determination and Enjoyment.

Our first Pride Award this term went to Amie for showing a great attitude to listening and learning.
Last weeks Pride Award went to Louie for showing Determination to improve his writing by writing lots of the sounds in words.
Well done Amie and Louie!

School House Chant Competition

On Friday we had our first house competition.  Each house had to learn and perform a house chant written by their two senior house leaders.  The children all did a fantastic job, Hoiho being the winners on the day.  Well done Hoiho!

Our New ipad's

Thanks to the generosity of the PTA we have 6 ipads to use in Team One.  We have been busy working together on both literacy and numeracy activities.  Here are some of us at work!

Meet the good looking kids of Room 3

We have had a busy few weeks in Room 3 with lots of busy learning and getting used to school.

We have been learning haw to read and write numbers and put them in order forwards and backwards.

Welcome to 2012 in Room 3. We have been very busy settling into school for the last few weeks and have been learning lots of new things. We will add more to our blog as the year progresses, so come back often and see what we have been up to.
